Just north of Goderich ,Ontario in a little village called Port albert( just off Lake Huron) is the location of the fish ladder . The Nine Mile river which is fresh water ,once provided power for a few small business, now operates as a fish Ladder .
Whats a fish ladder you might ask ? Its a man made structure that allows fish to bypass and make it up stream threw the nine mile river . At the fish ladder they also gather information about trout and salmon by collecting fish scales ,measurements ,sex and condition .
Every year in April (spring ) and november (fall ) ,Nine mile steal headers get together and do a lift at the Port Albert Fishway Ladder . They handle the fish to collect information about the fish and to gather eggs (spawn) for the hatchery .
One of the neat things at the Fish ladder you could get the chance to see fish try and jump the falls .
